SEND and Inclusion

At Our Lady and St. Teresa's Catholic Primary School we are an inclusive school. We strive to support all children to enable them to achieve at school. In order to do this many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey.

Quality teaching is essential; however for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve and progress. Here you can find information about our SEN policy in school and the answers to some frequently asked questions about SEN and inclusion. Should you need further information or you have any concerns Mrs Ridges is our SENCo and be contacted via the school office or on 01926 424420.

Accessibility & Equality

Our Lady & St Teresa's Catholic Primary School aspires to be sensitive to the needs of every child, parent and carer, reducing barriers to learning and making the curriculum accessible to every student.  Reasonable adjustments to physical and other arrangements of the school are considered where necessary, taking into account the nature of any impairment, pupil and parent views and advice from teachers and other professionals.

Support for parents

As a school we ensure that all aspects are accessible for all. At OLST, we see ourselves as an extension of the family and therefore work closely with parents/carers to provide support and signpost guidance where appropriate.

Mental Health and Young People

Many aspects of today’s society can be bad news for the mental health of children and young people in the UK.  As they grow and develop, children have to navigate a complex and ever changing world, facing challenges and pressures in numerous aspects of their lives:

  • Family breakdown is widespread.
  • There is so much pressure to have access to money, the latest toy or gadget and perfect lifestyle.
  • Materialist culture heavily influences young people
  • 24 hour social networking and what young people can access from a young age can have a negative impact on their mental health and wellbeing
  • Body image is a source of much distress for many young people.
  • Statistics show that bullying on and offline is rife.
  • Violence is rife in many communities and fear of crime a constant source of distress for thousands of young people.
